Melanie Genova has served individuals and families through a variety of social work and counseling positions since 1995. Melanie has a special interest in issues related to couples and families. She also diagnoses and treats mental and behavioral health conditions. Melanie operates from a trauma-informed, Cognitive Behavioral approach. Melanie provides faith-based counseling for those seeking that perspective. She has worked with adults with chronic mental health issues both in residential and outpatient settings. She developed and implemented an after school program for junior high children. She worked with families and children through the community-based program, Wrap Around. Melanie worked with foster and adoptive families through a position with Northeast Ohio Adoption Services. Melanie has been an outpatient counselor with PsyCare since 2011, and the Clinic Director of Austintown PsyCare since 2015.
Melanie’s vision for her professional work is to assist couples, families, and individuals with growth and healing.
Melanie works from a Cognitive Behavioral framework. In addition, she draws from a variety of approaches in the development of coping strategies with her clients to form a dynamic toolbox in which they can draw upon. She approaches her work with couples and families from an Attachment Theory perspective to understand and heal the underlying dynamics that are impacting present day relationships.
