Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured evidenced based therapy designed to help people heal from the emotional distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR has been shown to be effective for a variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on helping the brain process and resolve disturbing memories so they no longer cause overwhelming emotional responses. The therapy uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (like tapping or auditory tones) while the client recalls a traumatic or troubling experience. This process helps “re-wire” how the memory is stored in the brain, allowing for healthier emotional responses and a greater sense of peace and control.

EMDR is recognized by organizations such as the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for trauma. It can also be helpful for anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, and other mental health concerns.

At our counseling agency, our trained EMDR therapists provide a safe, supportive environment to help clients gently work through difficult experiences and move toward healing.
